The latest version of the iOS operating system enables the end-to-end encryption of iCloud to be enabled globally and the locking of the Apple ID through the security key.
Last night, Apple released iOS 16.3 to target devices, which allows you to lock down your Apple ID with a security key. This update also enables the new Advanced Data Protection feature (end-to-end encryption) for non-US residents. Apple had activated Advanced Data Protection before the end of 2022 in the US.
The new iPhone OS update brings changes to Emergency Call, new wallpapers, and adds support for the second generation HomePod to Apple's phones.
According to The Verge , last year Apple introduced a hardware security key feature that allows you to log into your account with keys like the Yubikey. The second most important Apple feature in 2022 was end-to-end encryption for iCloud. With iOS 16.2, this feature became available for US users. Thanks to the iOS 16.3 update, users in other countries now have access to iCloud Advanced Data Protection.
Apple says that in the new version of iOS, to activate the emergency call feature, you must hold down the side button along with the volume up or down button. This change prevents accidental calls to emergency operators. iOS 16.3 also fixes a number of software bugs.
The iPhone's iOS 16.3 operating system increases the compatibility of this phone with the HomePod Mini smart speaker , although this compatibility is dependent on the release of a new update for the speaker. Once the update is released, the HomePod Mini can appear as a temperature and humidity sensor.
It is likely that Apple will soon update macOS with support for the Apple ID security key.
You can install the latest version of iOS on your phone by going to the settings menu, General section and then Software Update.
